It’s the ultimate small-group workshop experience.

This will be an extraordinary experience that will inspire, inform, and challenge you to try new techniques and new ways of thinking and creating image you never thought you’d capture.

A TYPICAL WORKSHOP DAY GOES LIKE THIS:

IT ALL STARTS THE NIGHT BEFORE…
The night before the workshop, we all get together for a delicious dinner (on us) in a charming casual restaurant where we’ll share a delicious meal, the wine will flow, and it gives us a chance for everybody to meet and make new friends. After dinner, I’ll share the details for our first morning’s dawn shoot on location, and we’ll do our best not to stay up too late after dinner. It hasn’t happened yet, but it’s always a goal. It’s a great way to kick off an unforgettable event.

WE START OUR DAY WITH A DAWN SHOOT
We hop on our private motor coach and get to our location while the light is soft and beautiful, and the streets are quiet and empty. After our dawn shoot, we either head off to another shoot (if time and location allow) or head back to the hotel for a yummy breakfast. Mmmmm. Breakfast.

AFTER BREAKFAST, WE’RE IN THE CLASSROOM
We start with lab time to work on the images we photographed at our dawn shoot that morning. Mimo and I are there with you to answer your post-processing and sorting questions one-on-one, and sit with you to cover anything you need help with. After lab time, we do photo critiques from our morning shoot, and then we have class time, where we learn new travel photography and post-processing techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop. We’re in the classroom each day until our lunch break, and we generally go as a group (Mimo and I always have some great spots picked out for lunch in advance), but of course, you’re free to grab lunch on your own if you prefer.

AFTER LUNCH, WE TAKE A LONG AFTERNOON SIESTA
Since we’re going from dawn till dusk each day, after lunch, we take a long siesta each mid-day to have some downtime to catch up on sleep, explore, rest up, or do some shooting and shopping on your own.

AFTER THE SIESTA, WE’RE BACK IN THE CLASSROOM
We’re back learning new techniques, or in some cases, we have an afternoon shoot, often somewhere indoors. Then, before you know it, it’s time for us to hop on our private motor coach and head out for our sunset shoot.

OFF TO OUR SUNSET SHOOT
We end each day with a sunset shoot on location (transportation is provided if it’s not within easy walking distance from our hotel). After our sunset shoot, we wrap up the day, and you’re free to enjoy dinner, shopping, or just relax with a glass of wine. That’s pretty much how it goes each day — lots of shooting, editing, laughing, sharing, lots of learning, and lots of lunch. ;-)

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have learned a lot of new photography and post-processing techniques, made some new friends, and taken lots of beautiful images. It’s a lot of work, but at the same time, it’s a tremendous amount of fun and an experience you’ll never forget.

Join Mimo Meidany and Me For “Luminous Lofoten”

A TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP | AUGUST 20-23,2024

Join KelbyOne instructor and master of composition Mimo Meidany and me for an exciting travel photography learning experience in the country Afar magazine named as one of their “25 most exciting places around the world to visit next.

Norway's Lofoten islands are a magical place. It’s like another world, and that’s why it’s become the hottest new spot for photographers who want to create travel images that are truly unique and not “over-shot.” (Note: This workshop is limited to just 12 participants).

What Makes Photographing in the Lofoten Islands so Special:

  1. Lofoten is known for its extraordinary natural beauty, with towering mountains, stunning fjords, and wild, open seas. The sharp peaks rising directly from the ocean create a unique coastal landscape that’s only found on these islands.

  2. The islands are dotted with picturesque fishing villages with their traditional, brightly colored wooden fishing huts that give it such a unique, charming look (and one that looks particularly great in photos).

  3. The islands, surrounded by soaring beautiful mountains, present a wonderful mix of travel photography opportunities and landscape photography scenes in the same location.

  4. The food in the Lofoten Islands is a true highlight, especially for folks who love fresh seafood. Traditional Norwegian cuisine is wonderful, and there are so many wonderful dishes to try with a range of dining options, from cozy cafes to fancy restaurants. Plus, you’ll want to try the traditional soft Norwegian flatbread or the local cinnamon rolls. In short – we’ll be “eatin’ good!”

  5. The Lofoten Islands are located within the Arctic Circle, and they are home to the spectacular natural phenomena of the Midnight Sun and long periods of “great light.”
